The 2002 Cape Hatteras Regatta was held Saturday and Sunday, August 24 and 25 at Camp Hatteras in Rodanthe, NC.  This year's event was also designated as the NAHCA Division 9 Championships.  28 boats from Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina attended.

Saturday's 15-20 knot winds from the Southwest, made the sailing exciting.  Jeff Price, the race committee chairman set a long course and 3 races were run, with help from Vick. On the crash boat, Kyle Harrison, Mike Baptiste, and Shambie & Jay Hammet were kept very busy helping overturned boats and taking pictures. By the end of the third race, most everyone was eager to come in.

Saturday evening dinner was Kyle's Spaghetti, as is now the tradition. Both "meatless" and "meatfull" sauces were served along with tossed salad, garlic bread and Haley's brownies. After dinner, the raffle was held with many great prizes from the sponsors listed below.  The money generated from the sale of the raffle tickets helped put the regatta budget into the black and insure that The Cape Hatteras Regatta will be held again next year. Near the end of the raffle, fierce thunderstorms coming across the sound sent many scrambling to secure their boats and tents.  When the storms arrived, the conference center became the center of refuge as well as "party central".

Sunday's winds were much lighter, at 0-8 knots they were mostly from the North. The sailing was much more easy going, but slower. 2 races filled the allotted time and everyone returned to shore to pack up and head for home. In addition to the normal awards, the 2001 Division awards for Hobie 17 and Hobie 20 were presented.
